If You may want to copy the link below and print the 9th grade Reading TAKS study guide.  The main parts you would to complete are the focused study skills.  Each skill builds stamina and knowledge to further help by objective and expectation.  To focus on objectives 1&2, I strongly recommend students do the following for each selection YOU read:

Step 1: Read the story for fun

*write the writer's purpose
*write the lesson taught
*identify the diversity
*identify the characters and change
*identify the setting and change
*identify the mood/tone and change
*identify the conflict and individuals involved
*identify the falling action
*identify the resolution

Step 2: In-depth analysis
*Do the following for each paragraph:
--write the main idea
--write a summarizing sentence
--circle descriptive words about the character(s)
--circle descriptive words about the setting
--circle active verbs
--box the focus word in each paragraph

Step 3: Universal Thought
*Write a short paragraph detailing the value and importance of the selection.  What do we learn about this culture and what do the the characters teach us?

    NEXT WEEKS ASSIGNMENT-Begin MS Word Assignment#2-Use DTP booklet on cabinet by door.
    Create 4 text boxes with an example of each below.
    1. Example of Proximity-items relating to each other should be grouped close together
    2. Example of Contrast- If the elements (type color, size, line, thickness, shape, space, etc) are not the same then make them very different. Contrast is often the most important visual attraction on a page.
    3. Example of Alignment- Nothing should be placed on the page arbitrarily. Every element should have some visual connection with another element on the page. This creates a clean, sophisticated, fresh look.
    4. Example of Repetition- Repeat visual elements of design throughout the piece. You can repeat color, shape, texture, spatial relationships, line thickness, sizes, etc. This helps develop the organization and strengthen the unity.
