OBJECTIVE: Today I will understand class expectations for DTP and practice the class expectations for the computer lab & I will be assessed over the class expectations.

ASSIGN YOURSELF: Bring Spiral to class daily you will get a lunch detention for failing to bring supplies to class. HW-->YOU MUST HAVE AUP SIGNED BY PARENTS!!

DO NOW: Learn2type, Practice Logging into laptop correctly. Anyone who is unable to loginto computer write your name on 3x5 card along with your ID number I will collect when timer goes off. NEW TYPING

  • 2. What is a layout software?
  • It is a type of software that combines text and graphics together.
  • 3. WHAT IS a USER INTERFACE?
  • Interface refers to all of the onscreen elements that allow you to communicate with the computer. EX: In print layout view you can see how text graphics will print on the page.
  • 4. Explain the difference between the Menu Bar and the Toolbar?
  • The menu bar contains general menu categories such as (file, edit, view, and so on) from which you can carry out commands in word. TOOLBARS- These are called toolbars because they include clickable icons or pictures/buttons that are shortcuts to the menu items.
  • 5. What is the title bar ? The title bar displays the title of the document

1) ASSIGN YOURSELF: SEE HANDOUT! HW== test grade!!
You will keep a record of the advertisements YOU see during their regular television viewing. Record the amount of time spent watching commercials and the subject of each commercial. For example, if you watches three hours of television, you should note how much of that time was spent viewing commercials and the content of the commercial (e.g., products, television programming, public announcements). For products being sold, record the name brand of the product (e.g., Ragu spaghetti sauce)

Opening activity. Discussion about television viewing habits and what magazines students enjoy reading by asking the following questions:
  • How many of you have a television in your bedroom?
  • How many hours of television do you watch daily?
  • What is your favorite television program?
  • What do you think about the television rating system?
  • What magazines do you like to read?
  • Do you subscribe to any magazines? What are they?
Students YOU are going to become "cultural investigators" in the area of mass media. Over the next few days, YOU will be investigating the role that advertising plays in YOUR daily life.

  • Each student WILL work with a partner for this activity.
  • One magazine for each pair of students.
  • Look through the magazine and find an advertisement you like.

  • Answer as many questions as possible about the advertisement, based on the ad that you selected. The first two groups to complete your analysis, Compare advertisements and discuss what you discovered with another group.
  • I will continue to group pairs students as they complete the activity.
